Lyubov Yaroshenko, the mother of pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko who was convicted in the United States, passed away at a Rostov hospital. This information was confirmed by Alexey Tarasov, the attorney of the Russian citizen in the United States, in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
Victoria Yaroshenko, Konstantin Yaroshenko’s wife, previously informed RIA Novosti that Lyubov Yaroshenko died in a hospital in Rostov-on-Don on Sunday night.
“For many years, we communicated very closely with Lyubov Mikhailovna Yaroshenko. She was one of the people who significantly contributed to moving the case forward and provided substantial help. We had very good personal relations. It is very sad to realize that she is no longer with us. She was a true Russian woman, who fought to the last to save her son,” said the lawyer.
Tarasov also confirmed that the possibility of Yaroshenko being allowed to say goodbye to his mother is completely out of the question. “There are no precedents when prisoners were allowed to leave the United States while serving a prison sentence,” he stated.
Yaroshenko was sentenced in the United States in 2011 to 20 years for conspiring to deliver a large shipment of drugs. He was brought to the United States from Liberia, where he was arrested on May 28, 2010. In April 2016, the New York Court of Appeal refused to review Yaroshenko’s sentence. Subsequently, Yaroshenko decided not to appeal the conviction to the U.S. Supreme Court.
